In 2011 sister company Reelscape Productions co-produced a 3 day sell-out run in Manchester of one-act comedy play Call Me! with By The Slice Theatre Company, which then travelled to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2012 for a 21 date run at Sweet Venues sponsored by TheatreLoverDating.co.uk and CARRIER-media. You can watch the trailer here and please check out the rest of the By The Slice youtube channel.
Highlights of Call Me!'s run include the cast performing a special pitch for our show on BBC3's Red Button coverage of the festival which we secured due to our innovative marketing techniques, including our interactive dating disaster board.
Call Me! follows 3 women on their exposing, cringe-worthy journey through relationship calamities. We may laugh at their misfortunes but we also might recognise one or two ourselves!
Manchester Salon: "The whole production was one of total, seamless perfection, resulting in a laugh-out-load comedy that hit home with the audience . . . I cannot imagine that even the most renowned theatres out there could have put this together any better!"
Manchester Evening News: "entertaining. . .warm and witty. . . heart-felt piece."
British Theatre Guide: "on this entertaining offering, the Slice Theatre Company are well worth tasting."
What's On Stage: "Adams excels with hilarious situations, sparkling dialogue and vivid characterisation. Call Me! is one of those rare plays where all the characters have redeeming features and so are likeable. . .audiences looking for a warm and very amusing play are in for a treat."
We hope to renew the partnership with By The Slice Theatre Company for Edinburgh in 2015.
In 2010 Reelscape Productions, our sister company, produced 35mm short The Caterpillar and Fly. The film was made with Sixth Form Media students from Southfield School, Kettering, who attended a 6-month after-school educational programme, designed by Reelscape, which culminated in them producing a short as Associate Producers alongside a professional cast and crew. This process inspired Reelscape Films' social ethos and the formation of Reelscape Community.
Inspired by William Blake's Songs of Innocence and Experience, The Caterpillar and Fly was based on one pupil's true story of an adult's attempt to shield a child's innocence from the realities of the world.
Written and directed by Vanessa Caswill, the project's supporters included Kettering Old Grammar School Foundation, Kettering Borough Council, the Ernest Cook Trust, The Blake Society, Movietech, Panalux, CARRIER-media, Kodak, Deluxe, Audiolink, Allied Bakeries and the University of Northampton. The short has screened at a private event to celebrate The Blake Society's birthday at the Tate Britain and at the launch event for Fortune Cookies at the London Eye 4D Cinema.
Reelscape MD Becky Adams co-produced short The Boy with a Camera for a Face , a satirical fairy tale about a boy born with a camera instead of a head. We follow him from his birth through to adulthood, and experience his inability to live a normal life, as every moment of his existence is transformed by the fact that he is recording it. Told through pictures, the story is accompanied by a witty verse narration read by Steven Berkoff. Magical, humorous, romantic and ultimately heart-breaking, The Boy with a Camera for a Face is an epic story told in fifteen minutes about the way we live today.
The Boy with a Camera for a Face was screened on Channel 4 on 22nd July 2014 and won Best of the Fest at the OSCAR-qualifying St. Louis Film Festival, Isle of Man International Film Festival's Audience Award, Melies D'Argent award at the Razor Reel Film Festival and Best Film Award at the Misfit Film Festival. It was screening at Film Northants in September and competing for the prestigious Melies D'Or award at the Sitges Film Festival in November.
